WEDDING GIFTS

If you knew that your gift would be noted in the newspaper wedding account, would that be incentive to buy a better gift? That’s exactly what we did here in Shelby County, Ohio in the last century.

"Miss Emma N. Eicher, daughter of Daniel Eicher, of Franklin township, and John Meyers were united in marriage on Thursday of last week, in the presence of sixty guests, the Rev. J.C. Beade officiating. The presents received were: J.T. Kelsey and wife, fruit dish; Charles Bennett and wife, water pitcher; S. Boyer and wife, cake basket; Mrs. George Ackerly, pair of linen towels; Milton Bennett and wife, linen towels; Mrs. William Enright, linen towels; James Swander and wife, bed spread; Miss Callie Meyers, fruit dish; Mrs. E.L. Kuhn, three pairs of linen towels; Miss Kate Ackerly, scarf; Miss Maggie Ackerly, artificial bouquet; Mrs. Frank Eicher, linen towels; Miss Amanda Wilner, cake stand and tidy; Miss Rebecca Swander, pair of towels; Daniel Eicher, father of the bride, bed room set" (Shelby County Democrat, May, 29, 1885).
