Canal

The operation of the canal spanned just 88 years, from the beginning of construction in 1825 to the abandonment of the canal after the flood of 1913.  Construction and operation of the Sidney Feeder Canal had a significant economic impact on this area.  While the railroads would threaten its existence, ultimately the 1913 flood washed out major sections of the canal, eliminating it as a viable means of transportation.     Return to Archives Home Page
